Sharing files and documents on your web pages

How to attach files to your Tidy web pages — and ideas for putting them to use.

Files are a big part of how clubs and organisations share information — monthly newsletters, governance documents, policies, committee reports. Your Tidy web pages let you attach files directly, so members can find what they need without a separate file hosting service.

There are two ways to make a file available on a page:

  1. Direct attachments — upload a file straight to the page (up to 50 MB)

  2. Links from Storage — host the file in Storage and link to it from your page content

Adding a file as a direct attachment

Under the page-content editor, you'll find the Attachments section.

  1. Click Add Attachment and select the file(s) from your computer.

  2. Save the page.

The file appears as a download link on the published page, using the filename as the link text.

Tip: Rename the file before you upload it. June-2025-Newsletter.pdf is a lot more useful to your members than final_v3_document.pdf.

Linking to a file in Storage

If a file is already in Storage, over 50MB, or if you want to link to the same file from multiple pages, use a Storage link instead.

  1. Go to Storage and upload your file (or locate an existing one).

  2. Click the filename to open its details, then copy the Share Link.

  3. In the page editor, highlight the text you want to use as the link and click the Link button in the toolbar.

  4. Paste the Share Link into the URL field and save.

Controlling who can see your files

Visibility is set on the page, not on individual files. When creating or editing a page, use the Visible To setting:

  • Public — anyone visiting your site can see and download the file

  • Groups — only members of the specified group (they'll need to be logged in)

  • Admin Only — only logged-in admins

This lets you keep sensitive documents away from the public without needing a separate platform.

Note: if the page is not Published, that means it's a Draft, and it's not visible on the public site.

Ideas for how to use this

Monthly newsletter archive

Create a "Newsletter" page and attach each issue as a PDF when it's published. Setting the page to Groups means only current members can access it. When a new issue drops, email the page URL directly — members who aren't logged in will be prompted to do so.

Want the archive accessible by direct link but not listed in your menu? Leave the Name in Menu field blank when creating the page — it becomes a standalone page.

Committee documents

An Admin Only page is a good home for agendas, working documents, and reports that the committee needs but the public doesn't. If you want a broader group — say, a subcommittee — to access them, assign the page to that Group instead.

Public policies and compliance documents

For documents that need to be publicly accessible — a constitution, code of conduct, privacy policy, or child safety policy — a Public page with direct attachments is the simplest setup. No login required, easy to share a direct URL, and it meets requirements like Victoria's Child Safe Standards.
