There are two ways to store files against a contact in TidyHQ: the Attachments panel, or a Custom Field. The right approach depends on how you need to use the files.
Using the Attachments panel
The Attachments panel lets organisation admins with Contacts permission add, rename, and remove any number of files against a contact. It's the best option when files are admin-managed, or when the number and type of files varies between contacts — for example, a Working With Children check, first aid certificate, or scuba diving qualification.
To add an attachment, open the contact and click Attachments in the sidebar (or press Shift + A). Drag and drop a file into the area, or click Add to use a file picker.
Once uploaded, click the pencil icon to rename a file or the trash icon to delete it.
All attachment activity is logged in the contact's Activities section and in your organisation's global Activity Feed.
Using a Custom Field
A file-type Custom Field lets you attach one specific file per field to a contact's profile. Unlike the Attachments panel, members can optionally be given permission to upload the file themselves — useful when you want contacts to submit their own documentation.
The tradeoff is that each category of file needs its own field, so this approach works best when you have a fixed, predictable set of documents to collect.
To set one up, go to Organisation Settings > Custom Fields > Add Custom Field and choose the file type.
The uploaded file then appears on the contact's profile.
