Passkeys

The new, more secure way to log in to TidyHQ

Updated over a week ago

Passkeys are a new internet standard for secure, password-free sign-in, designed by major technology providers such as Apple, Google and Microsoft to replace passwords on the Web.

Instead of setting or remembering a password, simply confirm your identity using your device’s built-in method (like Face ID, Touch ID, or a PIN). Your passkey is stored safely on your device and can’t be reused, guessed, or phished.

For most users, you’ll never need to enter a password again. For Admins, passkeys are now becoming part of our stronger two-factor authentication (2FA) requirement, keeping organisation data safer than ever.

How it works

You’ll soon be prompted to create a passkey when you log in.

Once created, you’ll be able to:

  • Sign in quickly without typing a password

  • Use your phone, laptop, or tablet to approve the login

  • Add multiple passkeys across your devices for convenience

If you ever need to access your account on a new device, we’ll send you a one-time emailed code as a backup.

If you have an existing account, you can choose to skip creation for two weeks at a time.

Adding a Passkey

You can add a passkey either from the Accounts preferences or from a prompt at login.

You'll be logged out if applicable.
First, log back in normally with your existing password, or with an email code.

Then, at the prompt, click "Create a Passkey":

If you have a passkey-capable third-party password manager you may be asked whether to save the passkey there or in your system password manager.

From there, finish creating the passkey. You should be prompted to authenticate with fingerprint, facial recognition or a PIN on your device. Once you're logged in, the process is complete!

Managing your Passkeys and Password

You can view and manage your saved passkeys at any time here:

From there, you can:

  • Add a new passkey on another device

  • Remove a passkey you no longer use

  • Check when each passkey was last used

You can rename a passkey (by clicking "Edit Label") or delete it altogether:

Note: if you delete a passkey in TidyHQ account settings, that does not necessarily delete it from your device's password manager.

Keep using passwords if…

You can still sign in the traditional way if you prefer, by clicking "Try Another Way" and choosing "Enter your password".

A few situations where you might choose to keep using a password:

  • You regularly sign in from shared or public computers.

  • You haven’t yet set up a device that supports passkeys (for example, older browsers or operating systems).

  • You’re waiting to finish a handover before changing login methods.

If your organisation has specific needs that result in you using a shared login account, keep in mind that you can set up multiple passkeys (one for each user) and label them accordingly.

As we are introducing passkeys for security as well as convenience, we plan to phase out passwords altogether in the future.
