Manually Renew Membership from Admin Area
Please note: This information is not relevant if the member wants to change any details in their membership. You will need to create a new membership in those instances.
As an Admin, it's possible for you to renew an expired membership on behalf of the member via the membership details page. To access the membership details page, for expired memberships, head over to Memberships > Reports and generate an 'Expired' membership report.
Note: The Renew button will only be visible on soon to be expired memberships (pre-expiry email has been sent) or expired memberships.
Important Note: If you have set a renewable until limit in the Membership Level, and that value is less than the difference between the Expiration Date and the Current Date, the Renew Button will not be visible.
Step 1
Generate an Expired membership Report via Memberships > Reports
Step 2
Click into the individual membership record to open its details page. The Renew button is at the top right of the membership details screen, next to Re-Send Expiry Mail.
Select the Renew button and you will see the following screen:
What if there is no Renew button?
If the member can't renew themselves, this button won't be shown.
The button only appears once the pre-expiry reminder email has been sent, or if the membership is already expired.
However, the New Membership flow has the option to renew an existing membership, and this overrides any timing or visibility controls.
Step 3
Complete the confirmation step of membership renewal.
Once you've completed this step the membership will be renewed for the member.
Allow Renewal vs. Auto-Renew
These are two separate settings that are easy to mix up:
Allow Renewal — controls whether members see a Renew button in their own member portal when their membership is approaching expiry. Enabling it gives members the option to manually initiate their own renewal. It does not trigger automatic payment.
Auto-Renew — a separate setting that automatically charges the member's saved card at renewal time, without any action required from the member.
If you've enabled Allow Renewal expecting memberships to renew automatically, note that members will still need to log in and act on it themselves — unless Auto-Renew is also enabled.
Allowing Members to Renew
The Renew button is also displayed in the member's profile accessible from the Public Page. The renew button will be displayed once the pre-expiry email reminder has been sent (these sending rules can be found under the membership level setting).
The Renew button is visible on members public profiles under the membership area, shown below:
By clicking on this page (and providing membership renewal has been made public) then the member would see the following confirmation of renewal message.
