You usually don't need a new group each year
If your membership level itself continues from year to year (rather than being recreated each season - see Guide: Getting Ready for Renewal Season), the same Contact Group can keep working indefinitely. Set that group as the level's Auto-add Member to Group once, and every Contact who joins or renews into that level is added to the group automatically - there's nothing to recreate each season.
Checking your group is set up correctly
Go to Memberships > Membership Levels and select your ongoing membership level.
Under Access & Sharing, check the Auto-add Member to Group field - your ongoing group (e.g. "Ordinary Members", not "2017 Ordinary Members") should be listed there.
If it's not there yet, you can add one now - this only needs doing once. Go to Contacts > Groups > Add if you need to create the group first, giving it a name that doesn't tie it to a specific year, then add it to the level's Auto-add Member to Group field above.
From then on, as members join or renew into this level, TidyHQ keeps the group current for you - no annual swap required.
