Stripe

Explore the convenience of Stripe for online payments. Set up easily, connect to your bank account, and manage refunds effortlessly.

Stripe

Stripe provides a way for individuals and businesses to accept payments over the internet. It is a user-friendly way to accept payments online and in mobile apps.

Stripe is free to set up and run and connects to your existing bank account…. plus it means you can control refunds through our platform!

Stripe charges its own processing fee (this varies with the country of your Stripe account and the currency you charge in). For Australian organisations it is 1.70% + 30 cents on most Australian cards; American Express and international cards cost more. Stripe may offer a non-profit discount, so contact Stripe for details.

TidyHQ also charges a service fee on online transactions: 1% + 20c on the Pro plan, or 3% + 20c on the Starter plan. Both fees are taken out of each payment before it reaches your bank, so members always pay exactly the price you advertised. See How are the TidyHQ and Stripe fees calculated? for worked examples.

Where does the money go?

When a member pays online, the money moves in three steps:

  1. TidyHQ records the payment. The membership, ticket or order is marked as paid straight away.

  2. Stripe collects the funds. Stripe processes the card payment and holds the money in your Stripe balance, after taking its fee and the TidyHQ service fee.

  3. Stripe pays out to your bank. Stripe sends your balance to your bank account as a single lump sum, called a payout.

This means a payment can show as paid in TidyHQ before the money appears in your bank account. That's normal.

How long does a payout take?
Your first payout arrives 7-10 business days after your first successful payment. After that, the standard schedule is every 7 days (rolling), and you can change this in Stripe to as often as daily. A payout covers the payments processed in the days before it, so one payout usually contains many payments.

Where do I check?
Stripe is a separate login from TidyHQ. Sign in at dashboard.stripe.com and go to Balance > Payouts to see what's been sent and when the next payout is due. To find out which Stripe login your organisation uses, go to Organisation Settings > Payment Settings > Stripe Payments in TidyHQ. If nobody has access to that login, see Forgotten Stripe account details. To change the bank account the money goes to, see Changing your banking details.

Matching it up
To match payouts to your bank statement and to TidyHQ transactions, see Reconciling Stripe Payouts.

Payments recorded by hand (cash, bank transfer, invoices) don't go through Stripe. You record these in TidyHQ yourself, and no Stripe or TidyHQ transaction fee applies.

Chargebacks

Chargebacks with Stripe: https://stripe.com/help/disputes

If one of your supporters disputes a charge, Ensure the treasurer raises a chargeback immediately. If it's not sorted out in time, Stripe will deduct it from their Stripe balance.

PayPal

TidyHQ does not support PayPal (support ended in December 2019). Online payments are taken through Stripe.
