Merge fields allow you to create personalised membership messages for your membership levels. Merge fields are special code tags placed in membership messages that will populate based on data from the contact profile or membership level.
For example, you want to say 'Hello Jordon' at the start of your message, but you can't possibly write out individual messages to every member. You can use a merge field to populate the members {{first_name}} automatically.
1: Once in your membership level setup, scroll down to Member Messages.
2: Click on Edit. You can then insert the highlighted merge fields into your message text.
If you would like it a little more advanced you can include the merge field inside a <a> HTML tag to create nice looking / easy to read links.
If using the visual editor, set the Protocol dropdown to "other" for the {{membership_level_url}} and the {{membership_renewal_url}} tags.
3: Click on Save.
Your members will now receive personalized messages for each of the notifications.
What does each Merge Tag mean?
Most merge tags available relate to a Contact's profile & details rather to their Membership, but some are specific to Membership Messages:
Merge Tag | Meaning |
{{membership_name}} | The name of the membership level. |
{{end_date}} | The end date of this particular membership. |
{{membership_renewal_url}} | The link to renew this particular membership. |
{{membership_level_url}} | The link to register a new instance of a membership of this level. |
{{org_name}} | The name of your organisation (the one sending the email). |
