By default, TidyHQ allows a member to register for more than one instance of the same membership level β useful for some organisations, but not all. The Allow Multiple setting lets you restrict this on a per-level basis.
Where to find it
Go to Memberships in the left sidebar, then click the name of the membership level you want to configure. Scroll down to the Renewals section and look for the Allow Multiple? checkbox.
The checkbox is ticked by default (multiples allowed). Untick it to restrict members to one active membership of this type at a time.
What happens when it's disabled
When Allow Multiple is unticked, a member who already holds an active, partial, or renewal-eligible membership of that level will not be able to register for another one. If they try, they'll see an error message β either prompting them to renew their existing membership (if renewals are open) or letting them know that multiple memberships of this type aren't permitted.
Watch out: interaction with renewal restrictions
If you have renewals restricted to a specific window (or disabled entirely), keep in mind how the two settings combine. A member with an active membership who can't yet renew and can't register a new one will have no available action until their current membership expires or the renewal window opens. Make sure this is the intended experience before disabling both.
