Concepts - glossary of terms

What is a Page?

Pages are the core building block of your website. Pages hold all the content for your website.

You can group pages together by creating a collection, but more on that later.

There are two types of pages, built-in, created by TidyHQ and custom, created by you.

Built-in

These are pages generated by TidyHQ. As an Admin, you'll have limited control over visibility and content of these pages. Built-in pages include: home; memberships; meetings; events; contact us.

Custom

Custom pages allow admins to have full control over content and visibility.

Admins can create new custom pages via the main area of Web Pages.

What does Page State mean?

Pages can exist in two states: draft or published.

By default, newly created pages are set to draft, which means they're not displayed on your website and only you can see them.

When you're ready to display your page, you'll need to publish it.

If you want to control who can see your page to specific people or groups of people, you can do that via the 'Visible To' settings for the page.

What is a Collection?

Collections allow admins to group pages together in logical sets.

A collection will be displayed in the menu structure and allow you to add pages 'below' it.

Pages can get added to collections by setting a pages 'place in the menu' β€” select a collection under the page settings to place a page inside a collection.

What is a Block?

Each page is split into pre-defined sections called 'Blocks'. Admins can control if blocks are displayed on certain pages under each pages settings.

Example blocks include 'Sponsors' which allow admins to upload sponsor logos.

What is an External Link?

External links allow admins to add URLs that point to third-party websites.

External links are useful for creating links to important information or content that doesn't live on your TidyHQ website.

What are Standalone Pages & Links

These are pages and links that need to be hidden from the main menu.

You can create standalone pages (advanced feature) by removing the `name in menu` text under page settings.

This allows admins to create 'hidden' pages on their website β€” only accessible by a direct link to the page via the page URL.
